Happy Friday!

Join the Reading Council!!  The first event is coming Tuesday with a Literacy Tailgate at Newberry High School starting at 4 p.m.  See the email that came Friday from Kelly Folk with more information.  If you haven't joined the reading council, it is not too late.  See Ms. Robinson!!

Mass Hearing and Vision Screenings will take place on this coming Tuesday.  Maggie will call for your class to come to the Music Room for screening.

We will officially kick-off our CHARLESTON WRAP FUNDRAISER on Monday!!  I will send you an email on Sunday to show a kickoff video.  In the past we've been given a DVD and could stream it on the news, that isn't possible using the link.  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE show this video on Monday.  This is a major fundraiser for our school and we need to encourage as much participation as possible.

All have agreed to moving club day meetings to the afternoon.  The new schedule will begin on Friday, September 30th.  The new club time is 1:30-2:40.  Bus riders can bring their book bags with them and set them outside of the meeting location.  Car riders will return to their class after clubs.  The only change to the abbreviated schedule is for 5th grade.  See below.

Reminder to have your draft SLO uploaded by Thursday, September 29th for Mrs. Graham and I to review and provide you feedback.  If you have any problems uploading, let us know.  I've made you all a new page titled "2016-2017 SLO" for a location to upload.

Induction teachers are exempt from the September 29th deadline.  You guys continue following the schedule Dr. Ware has provided for you.  However, Mrs. Graham and I will be happy to give you feedback before you submit to Dr. Ware.

Early Release is Wednesday.  Other than your committee meeting, the afternoon is yours to plan and work on SLO's.  The committee meeting location and times are below.

What a busy week!  It began with a wonderful two days of breakfast with our Grandparents.  The cafeteria staff provided a full breakfast for our visitors to include grits, eggs, sausage and a biscuit.  We received so many kind compliments.  Thank you to our awesome Cafeteria ladies!!  Its hard to believe because it is so beautiful outside right now that we started this week with a ugly storm.  Shout out to the afternoon car duty folks who stood out in the pouring rain, lightening, and wind to get our children home safe.  Everyone was soaked and it was a testament to our determination.  We appreciate those who sent out umbrellas and the many people who stepped out to help.  We are ending the week with a great start to Club Days for our 3rd-5th graders.  I am so proud of our teachers who spent time preparing for their clubs and have some great ideas/plans to come.  Our students were very excited and have been talking about them all day.

Congratulations to Maria.  She has been selected as the SIC teacher representative for this school year.

As you've seen we now have a Coke machine in our workroom.  We called several distributors requesting a machine and Coke was the only to respond.  Proceeds from each purchase will come back to the school and Coke will cut us a check.  :)  To make room for the machine, the shred bin (large gray trashcan) has been moved to the extra conference room/food room in the main office.  Ms. Cindy has put a sign on the door.

If you haven't downloaded the new iOS 10 software to your IPAD, please start the process on Monday to all of your IPAD's.  To do this click settings, general, software update, download and install (in blue at bottom), agree, and agree once more.  That should begin the installation.

If you have having issues accessing the Master Calendar or OneNote, please let me know.

Happy Friday All!!

The SLO timeline and meeting dates have been added to the Master Calendar.  For quick reference, click the document below.  Please let Mrs. Graham or I know if you have any questions.  We are here to help.  You will have time on District Wednesday to work on your SLO's, unless you have a meeting and received an email from me today (Friday).

Facilities Management needs our help flushing the water throughout our building.  They are asking that we flush all water faucets in our classrooms at the beginning of each school day for approximately 2 minutes.  Make it part of your routine to cut them on when you enter your rooms.  :)  We appreciate that help!

Tricia Ulch tells me you should expect your email from SafeSchool sometime soon, maybe even today.  If you don’t have it, please look in Clutter.
Reminders:
  • You must complete the OSHA/BBP training during school hours so the nurse is available for any questions.  The other training can be done any time you chose.
  • Please make sure you don't try to skip through or it will not say you have completed the course.
We look to have a large number of grandparents joining us on Monday and Tuesday.  To accommodate parking out front, please plan to park out back or on the side road running beside the cafeteria.  We plan to send grandparents straight to the cafeteria that morning and their grandchild to your room to leave book-bags and pick up breakfast cards.

Thanks to all who have contributed to the Sunshine Fund this year (BELOW).  It's not too late.  See Ms. Cindy if you'd like to join.

Remember there is a PTO meeting on Monday night at 6:30 p.m.  Our 4th and 5th graders will be performing.  See you all there!

Hello Hermine!!

What a wild Friday!  Thank you all for a smooth day considering there was a TS happening all around us.  Special thank you to those folks who came out and gave extra hands to car duty!

Thank you to our club sponsors for your club descriptions.  I have them all and can't tell you how excited I am for our 3rd-5th grade students to have this opportunity.  I will begin announcing our club offerings on Tuesday after the morning news show.  3rd-5th grade teachers stay tuned after the show is over.

We have some new folks on the GCA staff this year.  Ms. Wakima Joiner is our Day Porter.  You've seen her first thing in the mornings picking up breakfast.  Ms. Dot is now the day/night time supervisor and comes in at 11:00 a.m.  She is also here for the night cleaning with Mr. Sonny (floor tech) and newly hired Jessica Gartman who will be a general cleaner.  As always, the book to report cleaning issues is in the main office workroom in the GCA box.  Please use it when needed.  I use your information when completing our school report card for the GCA managers.  On the flip side of that, give these folks shout outs when you can as well.  We know how nice if feels to be appreciated and I'm grateful for the folks we have in place this year.

This week I went into AESOP and changed arrival and dismissal times for our subs.  The 1/2 day AM subs are from 7:10 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. and a PM sub is from 11:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m.  Subs will now be able to see the time but reminding them when you call to set up an absence won't hurt.

If you plan to attend T.N.O on October 6th to see Gerry Brooks, please return your registration form and $10 by Tuesday, September 6th.  I've attached one of my favorite videos below for those of you who have not seen his "work".

Thanks to all who have contributed to the Sunshine Fund this year (BELOW).  It's not too late.  See Ms. Cindy if you'd like to join.

Check the Master Calendar for the drills planned for our "Don't get L.E.F.T" week beginning on the Tuesday after Labor Day.  We plan for the drills to take place between 8:15 a.m. -9:00 a.m.

Reminders:
  • If you are interested in giving a sick day to the sick leave bank please return completed forms to Ms. Cindy's office on or before Wednesday, September 23rd.
  • From Reading Council representative, Sonya Robinson:  I wanted to take a moment to encourage you to join the reading council as the committee has worked hard to put together some exciting programs this year. The cost for joining is $15. Once you join, your name will be added to the “Dream Team Board” assembled in the workroom/teacher’s lounge. Let’s work hard to build membership. We are always SO close to 100% participation. This year, let’s nail it!  Go PGE TIGERS!!
    • The first program is scheduled for September 27, 2016 at Newberry High School (time TBA). The speaker will be James Bryan with a session titled Literacy Tailgating: Let’s Kick-Off the Year Learning Together. Please see your NCRC flyers that have been placed in your boxes for detailed information and for other events this year.

I hope you all enjoy your LONG weekend!!
