The school will be running a short Spirit and Pride fundraiser on next week selling Pomaria-Garmany Elementary t-shirts and sweatshirts.  A packet for each student has been placed in your boxes.  Please send the packet home with students on Monday.  The packet and order forms are due back to the school by Friday.  We are hoping these will sell and make nice Christmas gifts for family members.  Please send all returned packets to Ms. Cindy.  The class with the most orders will have a pizza party for lunch.

The SCPASS and SCREADY student data reports will be placed in your boxes on Tuesday.  Please send them home with signed paper on Wednesday.

I'm excited to announce that we will have 2 authors at PGE on November 14th.  Tim Lowry will be presenting to our 3rd-5th graders and Michael Finklea will present to our PK-2nd graders that morning.  We will get the time for Michael Finklea posted on the School Master Calendar soon.

What a week?!?!  Celebrating Red Ribbon Week with dress up days, trunk or treat, club day, 2nd graders testing, and a fire drill in the mix.  We survived and I know our children truly had a good week.  I hope you all have enjoyed the team-building activities from the week.  The mystery is close to being solved and more information will come on Monday along with team awards from the week.  The food and snacks that you brought in on Friday were delicious and themed PERFECTLY!!!  The picture below made me giggle late Friday afternoon when it came by email.  One teams picture of an "amazing thing at PGE" was seeing the last bus pull out on Friday afternoon.  :)  Too funny!!  I hope you all have a great weekend.  I'm looking forward to the costumes on Monday!!!

 PTO Auction Baskets
The PTO is requesting grade/content level support by our staff by submitting a themed basket for the Auction for Academics.  Our PTO is very supportive in our requests for our school, this is just one small way we can give back.  As a suggestion, the most popular baskets from last year were the "SuperHero", "Kid-Related" and "Gift-Card" baskets.  Please bring your basket to the main office by Wednesday, November 16th to be tagged for the Auction that Friday night.  See me with any questions
Testing
ITBS testing will be going on in our 2nd grade classrooms on Wednesday and Thursday mornings.  Please remind your classes of ZONE 0 when moving in the hallways.
"Teach or Treat"

"Teach or Treat", Oh How Neat, You'll Get Something Good to Eat!"  Mark your calendars!!!  Stop by the workroom for a treat on Monday, October 31st and then enjoy a duty free lunch on Tuesday, November 1st.  Special thanks to the Sunshine Committee for putting these two days together!!  Those members are Cindy Long, Dona Pitts, Hayley Jacobs, Alex Pruitt, Janet Ashmore, Amy Russell, and Kayla Lawson.

Student Data Reports (3rd-5th)
The SCREADY score reprints will not be received in the district until October 25th.  As a result, we will not be able to distribute with report cards.  We will hold all student score reports for SCPASS and send them all home with the SCREADY reports on November 2nd.  The district would rather them all go home at once than separately.

 Professional Dress Reminders
The topic of dress code came up at my last Principal's meeting, so I bring it back to you for attention and consideration.  Our district administrators are frequently in schools and have growing concerns over professional dress.  No school was named, but this is a great time for reminders.  Please refer back to the dressing for success section in our staff handbook.  A few highlights to remember:
  • On Friday's we will have special "Denim Days" at which time you can wear jeans with a t-shirt.  The t-shirt should be teacher, education, or school related.  If you purchase a jean pass for the middle of the week the same applies for the shirt.
  • No t-shirts during the week unless it is Friday or you've turned in a jean pass.
  • When in doubt, don't wear it!  This is key.  When you look in the mirror, ask yourself what does my dress say about me today?  Is it a professional example for my children?
 District Wednesday
Unless you received an email from me today (Friday), your district Wednesday meeting will be held in Mrs. Thompson's room (406).  Mrs. Thompson will be presenting information on Kahoot.  The grade level times are as follows:
PK-2 @ 3:15 p.m.
3-5 @ 4:00 p.m.
Red Ribbon Week
Mrs. Washington has arranged for Michael Stribble with the Newberry County Sheriff's Office to come kick-off Red Ribbon Week on Monday.  He will speak with our younger students about Halloween safety and not taking candy from strangers.  He will also stress that police officers are our friends.  He will speak to the older students about drug and alcohol abuse and prevention.   Please bring your class to the multipurpose room at the times below:
PK-2 @ 9:00-9:20
3rd-5th @ 9:30-10:00

The sign up sheet for Trunk-or-Treat will come out first thing next week.  Mrs. Washington will let you know when you can start signing up.

GCA Changes
Ms. Linda Cannon will  be returning to PGE starting on Monday.  She will be assigned to the 2nd-5th grade hallway.

Congratulations again to our 2016-2017 Distinguished Reading Teacher of the Year, Hayley Jacobs!!

Thank you all for the birthday love yesterday!  You made my day GREAT!

The Sign Up Sheet to meet with Ward Services and Nancy next week is in the Main Office.
Every employee is asked to attend an individual meeting to conduct a benefits review and to satisfy ACA (Affordable Health Care) requirements.  The benefits newsletter was put in your box and is below so you can start reviewing this important information.  The best news is that the employee health premiums are not increasing in 2017.  Please review the newsletter (click the picture) before next week so you will be ready to make any changes.

The PTO purchased a subscription to TumbleBooks Library last year.  You can add the log in information to your newsletters for parents to access at home.  It is below.  There is also a quick link you can use in your classroom or IPAD's that is below.  This is a great site for read alouds and shared reading books that are organized by content, genre, etc.
